On my previous post, 17 No-BS strategies for Creating Viral Content, I talked about "writing to inspire." One thing I forgot to mention was that in order for you to write to inspire, most of the time, YOU have to be inspired.

Inspiration is often a key ingredient in most success stories.

Without someone, somewhere being inspired to do something, the world would still be in the dark ages.

Inspiration can come from the most unexpected sources. For example, an apple inspired Newton and a bath inspired Archimedes. It's sometimes that strange.

While trying to find inspiration for my next posts, I decided to throw a question at some of the world's most popular bloggers.

I asked them what moments actually inspired them to do what they do and I've decided to share their stories here. They are both inspiring and motivating.
The defining moment of my career was when I held my infant son in my arms and realized that I needed to give him everything, but that everything meant *me*, not an excess of money. That led to career advancement that focused on time flexibility above salary.
One defining moment that made a big change in my business and mentality was when my father and I flew across the country from NJ to CA to attenda Commission Junction University in 2000. I was still in high school and already making money online for a few years now. This was the first affiliate/internet marketing event that I went to, and being a 17 year old kid amongst the mega million dollar dot com companies was quite a thrill. I would go on to speak and attend a ton of conferences in the coming years, but this was my first event and it made a huge impact on my business and helped me get to where I am today.
The first thing that comes to mind was the discontent I felt. I wasn't doing what I really wanted. It was literally the straw that broke the camel's back. I knew that what I had been doing wasn't working, so if I wanted different results, I needed to change my game plan, which I did, and here I am.
hosting wasn't what I wanted to do long-term. It took me a year from
that point to actually wrap up the sale, but it has been totally worth
I was cleaning vacation homes for a living, NOT loving it on any level, making probably only $200 bucks a week, if that, and thought "There has to be something bigger and better than this." I was miserable and not very fun to be around.
I started researching online opportunities, got a lot of help from fellow online entrepreneurs from a forum I was a part of, and somehow fell into writing web copy for a living! I'm honestly not quite sure HOW it happened, other than God was leading me in the direction He wanted me to go, the pieces fell where He intended, and here I am. :)

Whether you’ve just started blogging or you’ve been doing it for years, one thing you will always crave is TRAFFIC.

I remember when I first started blogging. I never really cared that much about it. My main focus was link building and increasing my page rank, nothing more. I’m sure it’s the same thing with most newbies.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to do link building but until realize why you’re doing it in the first place, you’ll never see my point.

Why do we link build? To get better SERPs(Search Engine Ranking Position). Why do we want better SERPs? Do get more TRAFFIC. Why do we want more traffic? To build our blog, spread our influence and eventually generate an income.

If you can properly leverage traffic, you won’t even need to worry about link building! (tweet this) Links will all come naturally (which is Google rule #1).

Most people think driving traffic only happens after you hit publish. That’s not the case. Even before you type the first word, you can take steps to ensure that your post, once published, drives the type of traffic you want.

Now, here are my 17 No-BS Strategies for creating viral content.

Personality

1. Find your voice. People want to read and share stuff written by other people. If you don’t have your own voice, you will sound robotic and if you copy someone else’s, you’ll be labeled a copycat. I don’t need to tell you that this will be bad for your reputation. So if you’re funny, use that to your advantage. Embrace it and throw in some jokes in your posts. If you’re the type of person that likes to motivate people, even better! Posts that encourage users to take action always do well online.

2. Talk to your readers. When you write a blog post, it shouldn’t scream Wikipedia! Wikipedia is an awesome resource for information, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that it doesn’t actually address the reader. It simply lays down facts. When you start a blog, you should aim to connect with your readers. Address them like you’re having a conversation. Use more words like “You” and “I”. Show them you’re a real person.

3. Be simple but effective. Don’t use too many “big” words to try to sound smart, you might use them wrongly and look stupid in the end. Don’t forget your grammar and spelling either. Just make sure you’re easy enough to understand but powerful enough to captivate.

4. Share your experiences. By this, I don’t mean telling people what you ate for lunch (unless you’re writing about healthy eating, then go for it!) I’m talking about relating your advice to an experience you had. For example, if you’re writing about driving more traffic with twitter. Share an experience of you driving more traffic with twitter. It’s a proven fact that people respond more to personal stories than general advice. Try it.

5. Coin a phrase. That’s right. Figure out a certain phrase that you’re going to use with most of your posts and market it like crazy. Whenever someone thinks of that word or phrase, guess who they will be thinking about… YOU! Need proof? What comes to mind when you hear or read the phrase ‘write epic shit’? Corbett Barr! That post is one of the most popular posts on Think Traffic and people all over the internet started using it and guess who they linked to… Think Traffic! It marketed itself!

Content

6. Write to Inspire. Make your content irresistible. Make it so that someone will feel guilty not to share it with the world. The thing about great content is that it also eventually promotes itself. If you give someone a reason to take action and improve, they will be more than grateful. That’s when you start to see your post achieve viral status. One person loves it, who then shares it with their friends who share it with their friends who share it with their friends. It’s a chain of inspiration. The more inspirational the post, the more viral it becomes.

7. Give the people what they want. Write for the people you’re targeting. You can’t please everyone so why waste valuable time trying? If they came to your site looking for tuna recipes, give them tuna recipes! They’ll respect you more for it.

8. Do your research and prove it. Why should anyone believe a word you’re saying? You’re most likely just starting out or you simply have zero credibility. How can you build your credibility? Borrow it! When writing your post, unless you have discovered something 100% new, you probably got a few ideas from someone else who has that credibility. You should mention them. When someone sees an expert or blogger they recognize on a post, they’re most likely going to share it plus you build your reputation because you’ve proved that you know your stuff.

9. Share the Love. Link to other people. Those people sometimes share it and even drop by to comment with a thank you.

10. Break the clock, be timeless. The problem with most bloggers is that they write posts that can’t stand the test of time. That’s not to say you shouldn’t write about things like current events. They’re good for instant short term traffic but if you want to go for the long term, write more timeless content.

11. Make it pretty. An attractive post is a sharable post. Push in some good formatting and one or more, well placed images with a possible video and you’ve got yourself a traffic generating goldmine.

12. Mix it up. You don’t even need to write a whole post. Mix it up, experiment with other media like infographics and video. After all, Youtube is the second most used search engine on earth.

13. Keep them hungry. When readers come to your site and read your post, you should leave them wanting more. By this, I don’t mean hold back. Give them something so complete and thorough that they’ll wonder what you’ll do next. This is when you should create some subscriber only content. It will get them on your lists and they will literally keep coming.

Interaction

I mean they are, after all, the people most likely to share your stuff. Find them, get their attention and wow them, this is where techniques like guest posting and blog commenting come in.

15. Utilize your twitter account. Twitter is one of my highest traffic generators. Get online and actually talk to people and help them out. Make connections. Retweet some of their posts. They’ll take notice and most of them return the favor. Also you can use it to gain momentum for upcoming posts or projects.

16. Reply to your own comments. Also, you should reply to comments on your own posts. Talk to your commenters as individuals rather than as a group because this is more personal and builds trust.

17. Flaunt your social proof. Give a visual representation of your social proof wherever you can. Make things like your tweets. followers and Facebook likes as visible as possible. When people see them, they would want to join in the action.

If you didn't read it, here it is, Writing Your Own Content Vs Outsourcing.

Just to recap, here are some of the main advantages of outsourcing

You're able to focus on other areas of your blog like design and SEO.

Consistent quality because experts will write for you.

You never have to worry about running out of ideas.

Now, one thing I realized is that though I gave mainstream services to hire freelancers, I never actually gave you examples of actual credible writers.

This list (in no particular order) includes 21 of the most inspiring, efficient, bankable and compelling writers on the internet today who offer freelancing services. If you want an excellent return on investment, these are the people to look for.

Now, without further ado, these are the 21 Most Bankable Freelance Writers On The Web

This is just a quick post I thought I would write to share my quite unexpected success in terms of PR and understanding of search algorithms. More specifically, Google's search algorithm.

Up until now, I thought I fully (okay... almost fully) understood what search engine algorithms were about.
In the recent August 2012 PR update, I was shocked to discover that my site had moved from a virtually useless PR 0 to a surprising PR 4! In less than a month!

My first thought was okay I'm probably dreaming because it didn't make sense. I made used every PR checker I could find and they all said the same thing, Google had smile at me.

I hadn't done any serious PR level link building so there was no reason for Google's search algorithm to all of a sudden stand up and say, "Your site is useful, I give you a 4." I guess most of my links were natural i.e. other people were actively linking to me. They were doing the link building job for me!

Then it all made sense...

After various attempts to sneakily increase my Pagerank failed, I gave up (admittedly, I was going a bit black hat). I was tired of trying every guru strategy on earth. That's when I made a very important decision.

A month earlier, I decided to do a complete overhaul of my content. I decided to become USEFUL, even if it killed me. No more useless everyday content.
I decided that if I didn't spend at least 6 hours on every blog post, then it wasn't good enough.

If I was going to use article marketing and spinning as one of my strategies, then I was going to use a top class article spinner. I chose The Best Spinner because it was so professional and allowed me to come up with literally hundreds of highly unique spins. I definitely recommend it if you want to go the article marketing route and are serious about building high quality backlinks.

And... I guess it was all uphill from there!... Actually that's not the whole story..

Over the coming weeks I'll be writing step by step posts about the search algorithm and exactly how I got a PR 4 in less than a month.

I just went through one of the busiest weeks of my life. I have a couple of niche sites that I’ve just launched and I’m trying to rank on Google. My plan is to get them to page one in 2 months. I know it’s going to be a challenge for such a short time frame but I like such challenges. They keep me motivated and make sure I don’t waste any valuable time. After all, “time is money.” Okay, a bit cliché I admit. :)

My plan for monetization is of course promoting affiliate products. I’m not going to go for Adsense because I realized (with a bit of help) that it actually distracts readers and sends traffic to competitors for only cents. So that’s a big NO to Adsense for now.

While preparing to launch the sites, I had to write a lot of content for both the sites as well as keep Electric Blogging alive. Admittedly, The Best Spinner streamlined this process and helped me create a lot more high quality and unique versions of content for off-site and article marketing purposes.

QUICK TIP: If you are already using The Best Spinner then you should spin your article to more than 50% unique to avoid Google dupe issues. :)

For on-site content, spinning wouldn’t cut it. I had to write pages of super quality content to provide value to my readers once they reached my site.

This is the point when I considered outsourcing content creation so that I could focus more on design and SEO. I ultimately decided not to outsource because I felt it would be sort of cheating and I want to be able to write a post in future about how you can do this all on your own.

Though I didn’t outsource my whole experience inspired this post on whether you should write your own content or outsource. After you read this, you can decide which is better for you.

So let’s get down to business.

When you’re starting to build your blog, you should first identify what type of content you would need to write. A good promotion strategy is one where you are everywhere your audience is. This means you have to consider whether you’ll be writing eBooks, making presentations or distributing reports. Each of these requires different skill sets which you may not have. You can cut costs by learning how to do these things yourself but it can get time consuming and other parts of your blog may suffer.

Do you have the time?

Sometimes you could have all the skills you need but do you necessarily have the time to manage every aspect of your blog? Ask yourself this question. If you are like me with so many projects on your plate then you might want to consider. You don’t want any of your projects to suffer and hiring a writer really lessens the workload (… trust me)

Can you afford it?

Sometimes it all comes down to whether you are financially able to hire someone or not. It can be tempting to go for the writers that offer cheaper rates. The problem with hiring cheaper writers is:

They might not be too familiar with the niche.

English might not be their first language and may not be that good.

Quality might not be that good. (After all, you get what you pay for…. Right?)

Again, don’t go hiring expensive ones for no better reason than… “They’re expensive, they have to be good.”

Look at samples of their previous work. Have they written for your niche before? Is their English good? Ask yourself all these questions to ensure you get the upmost quality in your work.

Where to Hire Writers

There are a quite a number of services where you can hire freelance writers and some of them have sites of their own. Most of them add their resumes, writing experience and rates. They usually charge according to your budgets so they are actually quite flexible.

Less than a month ago, I was reading one of my favourite blogs (Smart Passive Income) and I read a post that I felt I really related to (well not entirely but I’ll explain that soon.)

I was reading Pat Flynn’s May 2012 monthly income report (always amazing) and within his post he said that Smart Passive Income had officially become a registered trademark.

Besides his openness and incredible profit making talent, this made me gain even more respect for him. This move simply showed he was super serious about his blog and what he was doing and wanted to take it to the next level.

So what’s so special about a trademark?

To tell you just how special and important it is, I have to tell you a story. It’s not related to blogging or online marketing so bare with me. It’s something that happened to my older brother Charlie, a little over a year ago but first I have to go back to the beginning.

About three years ago (2009), Charlie (who was 25 at the time) decided with his friend to start a business. What he did was import quality furniture and electronics from around the world at a reasonably low price and then sells them to shop owners and other businesses for profit. The name of their business was “Green Vine Trading.”

In about a year and a half, they had managed to do extremely well and even open two of their own stores to sell directly to consumers. Everything was going well until he started to get calls from people claiming they were ripped off and that their electronics they bought from his store were fakes.

This would have seriously worried him if those people hadn’t said that they were from nearby town, which he hadn’t even expanded to! It turns out another business was using a similar name “Green Vine Investments” and people automatically thought it was related to Charlie’s.

So immediately after that they decided to register Green Vine as a trademark and sent notice to the owner of the other business who surprisingly changed their name without a fight. (I guess they probably knew it was going to happen… who knows?)

Trademark, Copyright, Patent what’s the difference?

I’m sorry but I might have to get a bit boring here. These are the three main types of intellectual property law.

Patents: Protect ideas and inventions.

Copyright: Protect artistic expressions like music, movies photos and literature.

Trademarks: Protect any “mark” associated with a business like names and logos.

There is a lot of confusion between copyrights and trademarks because they often overlap especially when it comes to dealing with logos i.e. an image used as a company logo can also be protected by copyright.

The main goal of a trademark is to prevent any confusion in the business world. A trademark prohibits the use of any marks that would cause any sort of confusion. These can be:

· Business names

· Product names

· Logos

· Slogans

· Designs

· Packaging

· Colors (yes… you read right)

· Sounds

· Shapes of goods

· Signatures

· Labels

Really anything that is capable of distinguishing one business from another.

NOTE: Companies can have the same names as long as they don’t deal in the same business. E.g. Delta is both an airline and faucet making company.

What does this mean for your blog?

If you’re like 98% of the bloggers on earth then you would probably either want to monetize your site or you already have. Whether it’s through selling ad space, using Adsense, promoting affiliate products or coming up with your own, making a reasonable income is probably one of your goals. You would want to make it a business. Building your brand would be another important goal.

You would want people to know your brand and associate it with quality especially when you release your own products like eBooks, audio seminars, training videos, training programs or software. You would want them to immediately recognize that it actually did come from you and not confuse you with someone else. You would need that protection. Trademarks provide that.

In the example I gave with Charlie, another company had a similar name and where dealing in basically the same products. This caused confusion with customers and was in some way affecting the reputation of his business.

Think about this. You run a blog about gardening for example and you called it Garden Maniacs. You write a really awesome book about the secrets to growing bigger, juicier vegetables faster and you want to sell it. You call it “The Garden Maniacs Guide to Bigger, Juicier Vegetables.” Then someone else releases a similar book called “The Garden Maniacs Guide to Gardening” using a similar logo that’s low quality and the content sucks. You’ve got a problem right?

When people get the other book and realize that it’s full of garbage, the next time they see your book, they won’t even give it a second look. They will be preprogrammed to hate you products and you will lose sales.

Also, another dark side is that people could be piggybacking on your name to help them get more business. If they ruin your reputation along the way, they don’t lose out.

Other Advantages of Trademarking Your Blog

One of the main problems with bloggers and other online business owners is that they struggle to produce the type of content that connects with and engages their audience.

This causes a chain reaction that in the end affects their relationships, revenue and possibilities for growth.

This doesn’t only affect first time bloggers. Believe me even the greats have days where they simply have nothing to write and are completely stumped.

Surprisingly, for some reason some people seem to be immune to writer’s block and blank screen syndrome. They keep pumping post after post of amazing content and you keep scratching your head and biting your nails wondering what their secrets are.

Well they don’t actually have any secrets. They just know things you don’t know that you don’t know (if that made any sense) and you can’t be blamed for that.

Now enough talking, let’s get down to business.

Most super bloggers understand the following five things.

1. They know who they’re targeting.

2. They know the importance of a Unique Selling Proposition.

3. They know the art of being creative without necessarily creating.

4. They know the importance of research.

5. The know the importance of writing to change lives.

Now I’m going to break these down and make them easier to digest.

Know Your Audience

I’m no expert but the first thing any marketer would tell you would be to know who you’re targeting. When you know who your audience is then everything becomes much easier. You are able to craft every piece of content you write to appeal to them and they will absolutely love you for it.

They will not hesitate to subscribe to your feeds, join your lists or even buy your eBooks because they would feel like you understand them and their needs. The good part about it is you genuinely would!

So the question now is, how exactly do you get to know your audience?

There are two incredibly effective places to get all the information you need about your audience. The best part about it is that they are both at your disposal for free!

These places are:

1. On your blog.

2. Off your blog.

On your Blog

Your blog is a gold mine of information if you know just how to mine it. Here are some strategies.

1. Review Your Stats. If you haven’t already installed Google Analytics, install it now. Google analytics is a world class website analytics tool that allows you to study your reader’s behavior from the time they reach your site to the time they leave it. It shows both your most popular and least popular posts. You can use this information to figure out why the readers responded more to those pages and not to others. It also shows you how they navigated through your site and this can be useful when it comes to tweaking the design of your blog.

Now I don’t need to go deep into the power of Google Analytics because there are people who are better qualified than me to teach it like:

Cameron Chapman in his Beginners Guide to Google Analytics on KissMetrics and

Dali Burgado in her SEO’s Guide to Google Analytics on SearchEngineJournal

2. Pay attention to comments. Most bloggers don’t pay as much attention to their comments as they should. When it’s not the random surfer trying to get a free backlink, it’s usually someone genuinely interested in what you have to say and giving you important feedback. Use this information! You get to know exactly what your reader wants directly from the source which is awesome. Also don’t be afraid to join in the conversation. You get to cover more ground that way and build important relationships.

3. Ask! It never hurts to ask. I think it was Wayne Gretzky who said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” If you don’t ask you never know what they want or what you’re missing. Most readers would be happy to contribute if you just ask. Putting up a blog post or poll asking them their opinions works extremely well and can also give you a lot of ideas. So swallow your pride and JUST ASK!

Off Your Blog

1. Visit Related Sites. Visit sites that are similar to yours. If they are doing better than you, it means they are doing something right. Get ideas on what post types their audience responds to the most. Study their writing styles but be careful not to do exactly what they do 100%. You have to give them a special reason to come to your site. I mean no one really wants another Copyblogger or DailyBlogTips if they’re going to be exactly the same.

2. Ask the Don (or Donna). Simply put, get help from the guy or girl who is doing better than you. Shoot them an email asking them about their site. Heck, give them an interview! Most bloggers would be happy to help because where you see them as a threat or competition; they see you as a potential partner. Some even offer critique services which you can really benefit from.

Derek Halpern offers this type of services and he can show you how to increase you conversion rates as well.

Create your Unique Selling Proposition

Your unique selling proposition is your identity. It’s what makes you stand out among the 181 million blogs on earth. It’s what makes people decide whether to visit yours instead of one of your rivals.

Just to put things into perspective, let me give you two examples.

Derek Halpern. This guy is personally one of my favorite bloggers (that’s why I mention him a lot in my posts). What he did was notice that though people where talking a lot about techniques of marketing; they didn’t explain the psychology behind them. So he created social triggers to fill the void and it was all uphill from there. (That’s 17000 subscribers in 11 months!)

Steve Kamb. Now this guy, I respect. He took the weight loss niche and turned it upside down and inside out when he created Nerd Fitness. He approached fitness from a whole new angle. This had never been done before and that’s why it was able to grow so quickly.

With uniqueness comes strong branding and with that comes loyalty. If you want to create content that strongly appeals to your readers or customers and keeps them coming back, give them something they’ve never heard before.

ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION

Again I think there are people better qualified to teach you more about USP like:

Greg Ciotti on his post Your Unique Selling Proposition: Why It Matters, and How to Find One That Really Works on Sparring Mind.

Getting Creative(…or not )

You don’t have to be create to be creative. In all honesty, I stole this one from Danny Iny from his guest post on Copyblogger.(A good example, no?) Coming up with ideas for posts is easy if you know where to look. A simple process I use to come up with blog post Ideas when I’m completely blank is:

1. I visit a related popular blog and look at their recent posts as well as their most popular posts (they’re usually in the side bar)

2. I write down the title and type of one of the post e.g. ’21 ways to make a million dollars in the next 10 minutes – list post’

3. Then under that I write information the author missed.

4. I write the interesting questions the readers asked in comments.

5. I write down my alternative solution or things I don’t agree with.

The beautiful part about this system is you get ideas without really using a lot of effort and these ideas can be used for your next epic guest post as well.

Other ways to create without creating:

1. Explain your personal success. Have you noticed how popular success stories are? Do you know why? It’s because it shows people that it’s possible for them as well. People respond to these kinds of stories. So pick a time in your blogging career when you achieved success and tell your story. It’s unique because it happened to you and you don’t have to think much.

Pat Flynn gives a monthly report of his earnings on Smart Passive Income and this generates a lot of interest among his readers(me being one of them… I swear this guy is a genius).

2. Explain your personal failures. Has the same effect as explaining your successes. If you had to read a post title that said ‘5 Reasons I Will Never use Pinterest as Part of my Marketing Strategy Again’ wouldn’t you be intrigued? People would want to find out why you made such a statement and will click through.

3. Link to some old posts. Monthly and yearly mash ups are great for posts especially for those readers who might have might have missed some of your work.

Research

Research is probably the most important part of the whole post. Without it you’re just dishing your readers a whole bunch of nonsense. If you don’t do any research for your post you’re risking your readers trust in you which is not an option if you want to create a thriving business online.

Well researched content:

1. Shows you know your stuff.

2. Shows that you care about providing your readers with value.

3. Helps create a stronger brand because you can back up your claims.

So the next time you write a post quote a book or give some statistics to back up whatever advice you’re giving your readers. Trust me; it will do wonders for your credibility.

Writing

Now that you probably have all the information you need, it’s time to put it all together. After all, you could have the word skills that even Shakespeare would envy but if you fail to present it in a flowing and logical way then to the reader it would be absolute garbage.

You have to be familiar with the anatomy of a good blog post.

The Anatomy

Every good blog post has an amazing anatomy i.e. it has a certain structure to it that makes everything easy to follow and really stand out.

There are many anatomy types out there but so far the best in my opinion is Danny Iny’s which you learn in his free webinar for Write Like Freddy and this is how it goes:

HeadlineàHookàRoot of ProblemàOutline of SolutionàImplementation of SolutionàEngagement Building Question.

Headline: The very first thing that catches the reader’s eye. Without an eye catching headline they won’t be bothered to even read what you’ve written.

Hook: This is the first few paragraphs of a blog post that if you land on a site, you have to click the read more button to get to the rest of the post. It’s the part you put before a tag in a Wordpress blog or jump break in a Blogger Blog. It’s probably one of the most important parts of the entire post because it determines whether the reader will continue reading or not.

To create an excellent hook you have to describe in detail the pain the reader is having or the pleasure they would like to have. It’s as simple as that. It draws them in and keeps them interested.

Root of Problem: This is also a very important part. This allows the reader to recognize where the problem is coming from in the first place and how they can avoid it in future.

Outline of Solution: Here you describe your solution and you have to make sure that you are as thorough as possible. The post doesn’t have to be long, just enough to get your point across. If it takes 300 words, great! If it takes 12,000 words(like the viper, Glen), even better.

Implementation of Solution: Explain how they can get started by using your information to solve their problem.

Engagement Building Question: This is what gets them talking. Leave them a question at the end of your post that they can respond to and make them good. This creates relationships between you and your readers who can turn into potential customers.

Engage!

If you have any social media accounts, get on them and promote like crazy. After all there’s no use in creating quality content if no one’s going to see it right?

Read and reply to all your comments. If someone retweets one of your posts thank them, if they mention you in a tweet thank them. If they Digg your posts, Digg some of their posts back. Get involved with your readers! Once they start to feel comfortable because you include them you would not only have gained a loyal subscriber. You would have also gained a friend.

P.S. I would also recommend getting a Facebook page for your blog if you don't already have one. After all that’s where 8 hundred million people are! I personally don’t have one for Electric Blogging. It’s not because I don’t want one. It’s just that I’ve never found the time to build one. But I can assure you that one day soon, I will.

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Over to You

I put in a lot of work writing this post. Where I am right now, it’s 2 in the morning!

So now it’s time to hear from you.

How do you find great content ideas?

What’s your biggest problem when it comes to writing content?

How much research do you really do for your posts?

Then Recently, I watched a documentary on Bugatti and I started to see a link between the ways they did business and how most successful bloggers do theirs. So I decided to put my thoughts on paper and it soon evolved into this entire post.

Pick something you’re good at

When it comes to blogging, you have to find what you are good at and excel at it. I know this is probably one of the most overused pieces of advice in the blogosphere but there is a lot of truth to it. If you do something that you don‘t enjoy, there is a very slim chance of you ever making it. When you enjoy and have a passion for what you are doing, it will hardly feel like work and you will actually have fun while doing it. Just make sure that you choose an interest that has an audience otherwise all your work would be for nothing.

Bugatti has been known for building good looking, quality cars. One thing they are especially good at is speed. That’s what they are good at and they use that to their advantage. Their engineers have a passion for speed and that is why they excel at it as you can see from the Veyron and the Supersport.

Just as Bugatti specialized in speed, you can also specialize on a particular part of your niche. For example, instead of making a blog on a general term ‘weight loss’, you can specialize on ‘weight loss program reviews’ or ‘weight loss for kids’ or instead of ‘Technology’, you can choose ‘Linux’ or ‘Android’. This is highly targeted, has less competition and gives you a higher chance of conversions e.g. subscribers and affiliate sales. This is also related to the SEO technique of using long tail keywords.

By being specific, you get known as an expert in the field then in the future after some success, you can decide to expand to cover other related topics. The following are some successful bloggers who have used this technique:

Brian Clark - CopyBlogger.com (Copywriting)

Corbett Barr - ThinkTraffic.net (Traffic Generation)

Danny Iny - FirepoleMarketing.com (Online Marketing and Business)

Derek Halpern – SocialTriggers.com (Traffic and Business Psychology)

Pat Flynn – SmartPassiveIncome.com (Home Online Income Generation)

Each of these has passion and has specialized and become an expert in their chosen fields.

Invest in Incredible Quality

It is always good to invest in incredible quality content. It shows people that you are serious about your niche and you aren’t just in it for the quick buck.

With the Veyron, it cost Bugatti about $5 million to produce but they only sold it for $1 million which is an obvious loss. But one thing you have to understand is that Bugatti didn’t build it to make money, they built it just to show that they could. They made a statement and that statement stuck. They invested in quality.

When writing your blog posts, don’t just write for the sake of keeping your RSS feed alive or just to add more pages of content. You should write like you mean it. Do extensive research for it and be thorough. Don’t publish a post unless you are sure your point has been made. Try to leave no stone unturned and make your reader feel good about reading your content. A quote from Corbett Barr, ‘write epic shit!!!’

Most bloggers hold out on a lot of their juicy secrets and only give them out with their paid products. This leaves their public content with an empty feel. Their blog posts are bland and simply uninteresting. Give out a lot of free secrets. I would say at least 40-60%. This would leave your readers hungry for more and then you can release your eBook or product. You would already have proved to them that you are the real deal and you would have a higher chance of conversions.

Create a brand and aim to associate it with your niche

Bugatti Created the Veyron and from then we associated the Bugatti brand with incredible speed. Even when the Ultimate Aero was released and took over the crown of world’s fastest car, Bugatti engineers went back to work and soon released the Supersport and reclaimed the crown. They had a fighting spirit and so should you.

When you enter the niche, aim high. Have the mindset of dominating your niche. Become the ‘Google’ of your niche. By that I don’t mean create a search engine; I’m just stressing the need to have the domination mindset. Think about it. When you want to search for something on the net, what do you say? You say ‘Let me Google it’ even if you end up using Bing or Yahoo.

Make something and create a buzz. This can be a blog, ebook, video or anything that has potential to become viral. Make people know you and associate you with quality.

Get Authorities to Mention You and Build Relationships

Top Gear is probably one of the most popular motoring shows today. It is watched by millions, maybe even billions of people around the world. When the presenters (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig) test and recommend a particular car, it gets attention. The Bugatti Veyron was so highly recommended by Top Gear that they had to dedicate three episodes to it. People trust their advice and they have a huge following. Get your car mentioned by them and you are guaranteed a spike in sales.

Same goes with Blogging. When an authority in your niche mentions you or something you have done, you should expect to get some attention and siphon some of their subscribers as well as gain some good backlinks.

By people, I mean the ‘gurus’ or top bloggers in your niche. You can do this by:

a) Writing Guest Posts.

b) Linking to Other Bloggers through your own content.
1. Write something amazing and current about your niche, email other bloggers and chances are that they will link to you.

2. Be Controversial, challenge what everyone is saying but justify why you are opposing it. People eat this stuff up and they will either agree with you or disagree and link to you to explain why you are wrong. It's so easy. Look at the example of my recent post that got a lot of attention and page views.

Google Smoogle: Why you don't need Google for explosive traffic

3. Leave awesome comments on other people blogs linking back to your site (to find blogs that will probably gather some serious traffic look at Digg, Delicious and Reddit's Upcoming or Hot sections)

4. Get on Yahoo Answers and answer peoples questions, make sure you have the absolute best answer so that you are always on top. Add a link to your site as a resource.

5. Add an email list, opt in form at a very prominent, hard to miss area on your site. Some people ue the hover method which works for them.

6. Add an RSS button so that people can subscribe. Don't forget to ask people to subscribe. If you don't ask, you don't get.

7. Ask people to subscribe to your feed either at the beginning or end of each post.

8. Review a product or company and ask them to link to you. People love free publicity and if you give it to them, they would want to link to you.

9. Add bookmark and share buttons to your site. Make t easy for people to share our content with the world. Hover bars like the one on this site works well

10. Submit your RSS feed to feed directories. ( Got upwards of 1000 views for a single post within two hours from a single post.)

11.Give well researched and thorough posts. If your posts aren't researched enough, it will show. People will realize you are not giving any value and wouldn't want to link or subscribe to you.

12. Optimize your post title for the keywords people normally search for. This is the first thing search engines see. I'm not saying continuously using exact match, too much optimization could penalize you but instead find a way of incorporating them. you can also use different variations.

13. Submit your site to hundreds of free directories. It may not be as effective as before but cumulatively, it does work to build links.

14. Conduct a survey in your niche, publish the results as a post and contact some bloggers and tell them about it. They might link to you if you just ask, they don't all have to be A-listers. All you have to do is make sure it is relevant and really informative.

15. Get your RSS feed syndicated by using sites like hubpages and Zimbio.

16. Network with other bloggers. Make friends with other bloggers in your niche. That way, if you ever need a favour. They will be willing to help you out ( e.g. you are launching a product or you wan to guest post for them. )

17. Write Amazing Headlines. This is extra effective on sociall media sites like Reddit and STumbleUpon.
Check Out My StumbleUpon Traffic Series:

18. Link out to other bloggers. Don't be stingy with the links. You want your readers to gain value, so provide them with a place they can get additional value. Bloggers also keep track of who links to them and will probably browse your site and link to one of your posts as a sort of thank you,

19. Get a good domain name, something catchy and easy to remember.

20. Brand yourself. Create a brand and promote it. Make people associate your brand with top notch content.

21. Take advantage of PLR content for your niche. Add a catchy title and post it to your site. You get a lot of new content and a lot of new traffic. It' a win-win.

22. Use a commonly searched keyword or words as your domain name. This creates strong association within search engines.

23. Apply to be listed on Google News Search only if you firmly believe your site is high quality otherwise you risk rejection.

24. Get your site listed on All Top. You get pr7 backlinks and a good traffic boost.

25. You can buy advertising in others peoples mailing lists. Find someone within your niche with a high number of subscribers. Shoot them an email and start negotiating.

26. If you have a product, start an affiliate program or join one as a merchant and get people to do most of the promotion work for you.

27. Exchange links with a few related sites in your niche. Link exchanges still work if done in moderation. Don't list your site or your partners site on a page just for links. This waves a red flag. Put them in a small blogroll. Maybe a maximum of ten quality sites.

28. Send articles to Ezine Publishers with a link back to your site.

29. Give away something for free. This is where ebooks and reports come in. People love free stuff. So use this as bait and reel them in.

30. Subscribe to my feed. That's right subscribe to my feed !!! You get free updates and information on all things blogging, seo, traffic building, money making and social media.
In this current age of social media and blogging, there are many services that you can use to promote your content and share your ideas. One of these such services is StumbleUpon.

StumbleUpon traffic is one of the most debated methods of generating traffic among many seasoned bloggers.
It has the potential to send you anywhere from a hundred to tens of thousands of views in a single day (the highest I received in a single day was 3267 hits) which is good but the argument is whether the quality of traffic is good or not.

On average the average stumbler spends between 15 to 35 seconds on a page (which is rubbish) unless the content on your site is attractive enough to engage him/her.
The following tips will help you master stumble and possibly turn it into conversions.

Write Eye Catching Titles

This is the key to most web 2.0 sites. Possibly the most important part of it. A mouth watering title helps draw the reader and make them stay on your page longer. Increasing the likelihood of a conversion ( affiliate clicks, Subscribers etc)

Titles That Work On StumbleUpon:

Resources

Top Lists (e.g. top 10 internet millionaires)

Funny Stuff

Something that helps or fills a need (e.g. How To's)

Something Amazing, Unusual or Controversial

Need Proof? Check the top rated pages in each category. They all have amazing titles that draw you in and they also follow up with amazing articles.

So the first step is the title but if you don't have top class content backing it up, you will lose the visitor as they skin through your post and realize it's worthless. Engage them from the beginning and leave the with an overwhelming wow feeling that will make them want to explore your site more.

Don't miss out on this 6 part series on how to leverage StumbleUpon Traffic and use it to your advantage. Subscribe to my feed for free updates

What do you think of StumbleUpon? What's the maximum amount of visitors from it?

Thousands upon thousands of so-called gurus have led you to believe that Google is the king of all traffic and that if you don't follow Google's rules of SEO and linking, you are doomed to fail.
Well i'm here to show you why you don't relly need Google to crash your servers because of too much traffic.

1. Youtube

According to alexa, Youtube is the third most popular site on the web. Billions of videos are watched each day and millions go viral. Im going to give you a real world example of a business that took off from a single youtube video gone viral.

The Dollar Shave Club. One hillarious video that went viral and launched their business.

Funny right?? have to do is get creative and post an online video series for your blog and watch the traffic pour in. Just make sure you have a link back to your site for your fans to follow you.

2.Awesome Comments

Don't just say something lame like, "Great post" or "Like your blog". Say something meaningful. Challenge the poster if you have to, ask him/her questions and slip in some information about your site like a similar post you had written. People will take notice of you and follow your name link to your site.

3. Twitter

There are enough ways to get traffic off twitter that i don't need to go through right now. (if you want to know more check the twitter section) Basically all you have to do is build a following. Follow people who have already followed someone related to your niche. If they follow you back great, if they don't unfollow them.
Then whenever you have a new blog post or whatever. tweet it and sit back and watch the traffic come.

4. StumbleUpon

Actually my biggest traffic and subscriber bringer when I first started out. Write an awesome post. Stumble it and watch the traffic roll in and the great thing is it's long term. I tried it with a brand new blog with only one post in it and got 1500 views and 57 subscribers. IN ONE NIGHT!! Do not underestimate it's power.

5. Subscribers

Get people to subscribe to your sites feed. These people will automatically be sent an update every time you update your content. So you will have a list of loyal subscribers who have gotten to know you and willing to read your posts. Which reminds me, if you are new here, subscribe to my feed to get free updates.
You can also get an email list from Aweber.
This is a little excerpt on a free eBook i'm working on. It is called "The Psychology of Attracting Links and Building Traffic." Subscribe to my feed to be the first to receive it when finished.

For you to understand the psychology of attracting links and boosting traffic, you have to have to be familiar with the term Link Baiting.

By Definition: Link baiting is a piece of content placed on a web page for the purpose of gathering links from different sources.
This can be a blog post, an image, a video. Really, anything that gives your reader an urge to share it.

In blogging links are usually shared through different means from social sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit to other blogs that generally find your content interesting. They link to you and you gain a backlink which helps you rank better in search enginse and drives you more traffic. If you don't know what backlinks are just go through the SEO section of this blog.

I am going to show you the best ways to create content that attracts a large number of links and probably boost your traffic 10, 20 and even a 1000 fold.

Current Content

People love current content. If it's happening now, people will share it now. So find something in your niche that is trending or being talked about and add your two cents to the topic. Chances are a lot of people will link to it because for obvious reasons they are interested.

This method is good for short term boost in traffic but also gives a possibility of long term links.

Funny and Cool

People share content that they find funny. How many times have you discovered a funny picture or article and just felt like sharing it with the world? That's how you can use link baiting. Create something funny and cool and people would want to link to you.

Rage comics and memes are popular these days, why not use them as your medium. These tend to go viral in a short period of time.

Bring on The Controversy

Controversial stuff sells. Be the person people love to hate. Get something widely accepted and challenge it with every fiber of your being. People will eat it up and will either love or hate you. Either way it still works to your benefit. People will be talking about you.
You've probably heard the saying "All Publicity is Good Publicity"

As I said earlier, this is is just an excerpt. There are many ways to build traffic and I will be putting them all in my book. So Subscribe to my feed to be the first to receive it when finished.

So, If you're reading this you are probably not getting as much traffic as you wanted: Don't worry, you are not alone. Millions of bloggers have this problem and don't beat yourself up about it.

Traffic generation is one of the most misunderstood topics in the blogging world and i am going to give you 5 reasons your blog isn't doing as well as you hoped.

1. You're not in to your topic: Passion is very important when it comes to blogging. If you are not passionate about your topic or are just in it for the money, then you might not go very far. When you have a passion about what you are writing, you will find it fun and not as much work as you think.

Think about the time when you were in school. You usually did better in classes that you enjoyed than those you didn't. Your passion shows in your posts.

Fix: Change your topic or find a way of getting more interested in the topic you are writing about.

2. You have a horrible design: The first thing people see when they visit your blog is your site design. People may want to read what you are writing about but if your site is unattractive they might not even bother.

Fix: Get an attractive theme or template. Trust me it's worth it. Make things look organised and don't bombard your visitors with unnecessary widgets. First impressions are everything.

3. You are impatient: Don't expect to achieve overnight success. The only way this is possible is if you are a celebrity or political figure. It takes time, you have to build a following.

Fix: Learn patience. Sorry to use this overused lime but Rome wasn't built in a day!!! Carefully work on you content. The better your content the greater the likelihood of them going viral.

4. No One Cares About Your Topic: If you choose a topic very few people care about. It's going to be hard to build a large audience. Give the people what they want and they will keep coming.

Fix: Make people want what you are providing. Steve Jobs once said that what he did was provide something and make you need it even if you don't know it yet. Give a unique angle to what you are writing about and people will start getting interested.

5.You're Not Helping Anyone: When people get on Google, they are usually finding an answer to a question they have. If what you are writing something that people find useful, they will not come.

Fix: Add some How To's to your site. Help someone. Find questions that are asked by readers of your niche and answer them. When you help them, they will help you by sharing your content, subscribing etc..

So what do you think? What are the reasons you have that sites don't get enough traffic?

Please share!!! We love comments.
Gradually building your blog and getting traffic to it takes time.

But what if you want visitors right now? You are tired of the whole long term thing and you want to see your traffic stats skyrocket! What do you do?

1. Ask your readers to share your post: There's no shame in asking for something you want. There is a saying that says " If you don't ask, the answer is always no ". So ask your readers to share your stuff on some of the social networks and you should see a spike in traffic.

2. Share Your Old Posts: You could have written an amazing post a while back that you know gathered a lot of attention. Why not share it again. I recommend using a popular posts widget or simply rewriting the article and adding a bit of new information to it. Then re-share it on social networks and bookmarking sites. Chances are lightning will strike twice.

3. Blog Commenting: Choose when and where to comment. It is best to comment on a blog that has a new post and be one of the first because these comments receive the most traffic. You should also leave some sort of contribution. Don't go for the usual spammy, "Great post!" approach because chances are it is not going to get published.

4. Write On Something Current: You want fast traffic? Write about something current, something everyone else is talking about. Write a post add your two cents and publish it. You are probably going to get a piece of that traffic. If you want to know what's trending. Go to sites like Alltop, Yahoo or even Twitter.

5. Get Advertising: I am usually against paying for advertising, but for the purpose of this post, it is essential. Pay for advertising on a top site in you niche or a site like Google, Facebook or Stumble Upon. These are high traffic sites and there is a high traffic and you can funnel away at some of this traffic.

6. Use Trackback: Read a big blog and write a post about one of their post. Add your two cents and add a link from your post to theirs. Just make sure the blog you are linking to uses trackback. If your content is relevant it should receive a good number of clicks because trackbacks are shown before comments

7. Write An Amazing Post: I know this sounds a little vague but i'm going to say it again WRITE AN AMAZING POST!!!! When you write something amazing and uniquely different. People are most likely going to share it. It is what I call, "The Law Of Share". Mark Zuckerberg understood the concepts in the beginning of Facebook, that is why he was able to achieve such success. So for your next post try to think differently and write the best post you have ever written.

What ways do you use to get visitors? We love to learn....

Please share them with comments

During my very short time off, I was able to read on my first passion which is tech. The more I read, the more my eyes started to open and soon I was seeing a sort of pattern between Microsoft and Google. I came to a startling conclusion, Google is slowly turning into Microsoft!

Yes for all you Google Heads(me being one of them) it might come as a shock or a cause for concern. You might be saying, "Who the hell does this guy think saying Google is becoming a souless corporate multi-billion dollar machine. Google is awesome, fun and is our friend. This guy is an idiot and should never be allowed to blog again." A few days ago, I would have said the same to someone who wrote a post like this. At one point, the late, Great Steve Jobs predicted this would happen. So let's put aside our emotions and look at the cold hard to swallow facts.

First of all Microsoft Co-founder and Tech Legend Bill Gates said it himself

"They are more like us than anyone else we have ever competed with."

13 simple words and yet they tell a lot. I mean, think about it. This is Bill Gates! Who knows you better than you know yourself???

Micosoft rules the Desktop, Google Rules Search:'

The Windows OS owns over 85% of worldwide market share.

Google owns well over 80%

If you think about it Google runs the internet. You could end up being sued for over $100 million dollars. That's what happened to Microsoft. Monopolistic practices caused them, for some time to spend more hours in the courtroom than writing code.

Google was recently discovered to favor Google+ search results by engineers from Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. A clear message from them was Don't Be Evil. The funny thing is this was Google's slogan which is now being used on them! Funny ho things change huh?

All you have to do is sign up for one of these and you have an account for all of them. They have effectively taken an operating system and put it online so that you never have to leave Google to do what you want. I can't complain, I like this because it does come in handy but according to the FTC( ), for some reason, that's a big no-no.

Okay there are many ways that Google is becoming Microsoft but I don't have the time to go over all of them. So just search the net, i believe there are people with more knowledge than me on the matter and I encourage you to read about this.

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You've got your new (or old) blog ready and set up and you are so excited when you pump out your first world record breaking, mesmerizing and all round perfect blog post .
The next day you are so excited to finally see how many people have read it or even commented.
First you open you blog to check for any praise giving comments............ nothing.
Okay you're not deterred, you say to yourself "anyway, at least I know people read"
You check your traffic stats....
................... 0 or maybe 1, you get excited then suddenly realize it's yourself! You get even more frustrated.
Now what do you do? In this case you are one of two people. Either you:

Get totally discouraged and swear to yourself that you will never blog again (or at least for sometime)

OR
You get back on it and try to find out where you went wrong.

If you belong to the first group, change that attitude. Rome wasn't built in a day. You have to start small for you to become big and decide that you have to become part of the second group.

If you are part of the second group, you have the right attitude. The main problem would probably be that you are not promoting your site effectively and there are many ways to do this and the main way being through through SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Performing SEO on your site simply means making it search engine friendly. Think about it when you want to find something on the internet, where do you go? A Search Engine. Whether it's Google, Yahoo or Bing,(Google dominating the market) someone will use a search engine like it or not.

Along with SEO there are special sections of this site dedicated to SEO, Blogging and Blog Promotion. Timeless content is content that can be useful today, tomorrow, next week and even ten years from now. If you write timeless content you will always have a good inflow of visitors because what you have written is still relevant.
The thing about current events is that when they die down and you stop consistently updating, your traffic stats also start to suffer. So you have to be prepared to keep on working to make sure your blog always has a pulse.

So now I will share with you some of the techniques I use to produce high quality and timeless content and I hope you do the same.

Use Your Experiences: Use a question that you have asked and think a lot of people have asked before and will continue to ask. Produce a highly informative and detailed answer to that question and put it up as a blog post. People will most likely continue asking that question if you chose the right one and this will help drive traffic and loyal readers to your blog.

Look To The Future: If there are rumors on a certain product or service that will be available in the near future and is related to your niche, start blogging about it now while you have very little competition. This will ensure that you will be prepared and be considered an authority in the subject once other people start blogging about it. Think about it.

Mix it Up a Bit: Don't focus wholly on timeless content, maybe once in a while talk about a current event. This will show your readers that you are up to date with whatever is happening at the time and this will also give you large bursts of short time traffic which can turn into long time traffic(if they subscribe) which is good.

So Timeless Content=Long Time Success

Nathan Kashhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12087454467291230196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7655152319168780692.post-32127318488429574402012-01-22T00:55:00.000-08:002012-01-22T00:55:04.559-08:00Ad Heavy Sites Begging To Get Punished By Google

If you have a lot of ads on your website, Google's new algorithm change will definitely punish you for it. I know it may be tempting to put ads in as many places as possible, especially Adsense because you want more clicks but Google is cracking down on sites that simply overdo it.

According to Google, the new search algorithm will search for sites with a good balance between good content and ads which could make your site drop a few places for it's keywords if you have overdone your ads. This algorithm change was made after many users and webmasters complained that Google favored sites with a low quality to ad ratio.
Google Engineer Matt Cutts also mentioned in the blog post that High Quality sites will be rewarded in order to encourage " a healthy web ecosystem"

"Google depends on the high-quality content created by wonderful websites around the world, and we do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem. Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that’s exactly what this change does."

"So, we’re very excited about this new ranking improvement because we believe it’s a big step in the right direction of helping people find ever higher quality in our results. We’ve been tackling these issues for more than a year, and working on this specific change for the past few months. And we’re working on many more updates that we believe will substantially improve the quality of the pages in our results."
Google has also increased "Ad Transparency"

When you look at it, Google is doing all of us a favor and increasing the quality of the browsing experience. You will no longer have to navigate through pages and pages of ads before you get to the content you are actually looking for.
The change will apparently only affect less than 1% of all global queries. The algorithm will devalue sites with low value ads.
If you are afraid of losing your precious rankings. Google suggest you do some spring cleaning on your site with tools like its Browser Size Tool and screen resolution emulators.
Everyone needs free content once in a while and what better way to do that than do open your site for guest blogging. It's a win-win situation. You get a free informative article that gets you lots of traffic and the Guest Blogger gets exposure and a link back to your site. The problem is that people don't juts guest blog on any site, they are very picky even though they want free links. They also want to write for a blog that gives good targetted ad quality traffic...

Now how do you make your site more appealing to guest bloggers? It's simple, follow these steps below....

Get yourself an attractive Theme/Template: A basic template just won't do. It shows you don't care about what your site looks like and this will not bring in more bloggers. If you are on WordPress, there are a lot of free and awesome templates you can get your hands on although paid ones are 5 times more attractive. The main point is that you should get something decent looking. If you are using Blogger, I have some templates on this site that I am giving away for free.

Update your blog frequently: This shows your blog has a pulse and guest bloggers would happily give you free content if they see that it has a high chance of being read. Don't leave your blog idle for more than a month or you face certain blogging death. Frequent updating will not only help you get more followers and guest bloggers, it will also help your SERPs(Search Engine Result Page) especially with Google.

Never Steal Content: Please do not steal content and claim it as your own. In the case that you do have to use someone else's content and they are not guest blogging. Give them the right credit. If a potential Guest Poster recognizes some of your content as stolen, they will look down on your site and probably never visit your blog again. Is it worth it? Think about it.

Build relationships with your readers: Interact with them. Get on a semi-personal level with them. Make them feel like you really care about solving whatever problems they have. Yo can do this by replying to comments and sparking up a conversation. It's really easy actually.

Don't over-stuff your page with links: When your blog is full of external outbound(out of site) links, someone may not want to guest blog because that would mean sharing all the link juice with hundreds of other links. Keep a few outbound links and people will most likely feel like blogging for you.

Basically that's it. So show me some love and bookmark this page with your favorite site or just hit it with a Facebook like or Tweet. I would really appreciate it. :)

Nathan Kashhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12087454467291230196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7655152319168780692.post-28763882742283650092012-01-20T05:29:00.000-08:002012-01-20T05:29:19.465-08:00Does Keyword Density Matter Anymore?

There was a time when all you had to do to rank for certain keywords on search engines was to have a very high keyword density and you would be able to land on the first pages for those keywords. Those days are gone no that search engines are getting more and more sophisticated, especially Google because it changes its search and ranking algorithm very frequently.
To see where we are going, let's get back to the basics:

What is Keyword Density?
This is the percentage of times a keyword or key-phrase is found in your content along with the other content on the page.

The formula for this is: ( # of keyword repetition / total words on page)*100

If you want to rank highly for specific pages you have to make sure you don't over stuff your content with your keywords or you might be penalized for trying to manipulate the search engine. That's not to say keyword density doesn't matter. If you keep your keyword density to at least 5%(which I call the sweet spot) along with other ranking factors, this will help boost your page's rank in search engines.

Just a quick question, one of my readers asked me. Hope this helps! :)
Nathan Kashhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12087454467291230196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7655152319168780692.post-85910054906578429192012-01-19T07:13:00.000-08:002012-01-19T07:13:17.554-08:006 Simple Ways To Shut Down Your Blog Because Of Too Much Traffic

If the traffic you are getting at the moment isn't leading to sales or you are just not getting any traffic, that means you are not attracting the type of visitors who are specifically interested in what you have to offer. It's a common thing and many newbies often make this mistake. But don't fret, there is a solution to this problem and all it requires is a perfectly laid out game plan.

Leave comments on other people's blogs that are closely related to your site with a backlink to your site. You will start to find that the number of subscribers will increase drastically because these people are genuinely interested in what you have to say.

Become a participant of forums related to your specified niche. Join group discussions and show off your vast knowledge on the subject and people will begin to trust you and this will lead to targeted traffic and sales.

Join LinkedIn and participate.

Publish a press release on an appropriate site and join craigslist to get more traffic.

Create a viral video or picture with your website embedded. This could attract a lot in traffic, so what are are you waiting for. Grab a camera or fire up Photoshop and come up with something creative.

Make friends with already successful bloggers. You simply have to interact with them on a regular basis, commenting on their blogs. You can even interview them then ask them to mention your site in some way on theirs and watch the stream of traffic come to your site( worked for two of my blogs). Writing guest posts works well too. :)

Blog Promotion

Blog promotion can be a daunting task and very time consuming. It can also be very frustrating if you don't do it right and don't see any results. One thing (first timers especially) think that promoting a blog has to only do with external promotion i.e. using other sites to promote your blog. This is true if you only want a few visitors but if you want a large in-pour of traffic you are going to have to also work on the blog itself first. Here I will outline a few good ways to get some serious traffic to your blog and how to keep it coming.

Work on Your Titles: Your Post titles have to be Captivating an force the user to click even if he is not interested in the topic at all. Make a title that is just itching to be clicked. A good title can definitely bring in the traffic especially when added to social bookmarking sites like Digg and StumbleUpon.

Work on the Content: Your content has to be clear an informative that way, when someone finds your content amazing, they will feel the urge to share it with their friends through Facebook, Twitter and other Web 2.0 sites. Then those friends will share it with their friends and you could possibly have thousands of people visit your site.

Add Share Buttons: You have to add share buttons to your site and make sure they are easy to access. This way someone likes the article. This point actually actually works hand in hand with point 2. This may seem a bit obvious but a lot of people when starting a blog forget to add the share buttons until later on and will have missed a lot of opportunity for massive traffic.

Join Blog Communities: Joining blog Communities like BlogEngage, Blokube and Bloggers can really boost your traffic. Usually you are allowed to post a link and details on a post you recently published and this post is voted on. If your post is really good and voted for, you end up on the first page where all the main traffic is and guess what? More Traffic. This is where point 1 comes in. You have to work on your titles so that they are noticed. Some communities also hold regular blogging competitions with prizes up to $1000. So this can also help you gain exposure.

Update Frequently: Frequently updated sites help when it comes to search engine traffic, especially Google.Google likes frequently updated sites because it shows that the site is alive and that along with quality content will help you climb the search engine ranks.

Bonus Tips:

Commenting on related blogs: is also a very effective way of promotion especially if you give meaningful, well thought out comments related to the post. People would want to know who you are and would probably visit your site, just make sure to leave your Name and URL. Comments like "good post" wouldn't work because most blogs now are moderated and it will be seen as spammy.

Joining Blog Carnivals: Joining Blog Carnivals can be a very efficient way to promote your blog especially when your niches are related. See More on Blog Carnivals

I have an offer for you guys, all you have to do is review my site on your site, preferably a blog post. Just something small, maybe even 50-100 words with "make money online" or "how to blog" as part of the anchor text and submit a comment on this post containing a link to where you put my review and I will also review your site with whatever anchor text you wish as a link to yours.
Benefits are we get links from each other and we also share traffic between our new sites giving us more readers.
P.S. Make sure it's something good. I will definitely return the favor.

Example of review:

" Electric Blogging is a blog dedicated to teaching people how to blog, seo and making money online. Nathan Kash the owner of this blog gives a new insight into how blogging should be done and shares all the insider secrets on the subject. He has definitely mastered what it takes to run a successful blog."
Thanks a lot!!!
